I am looking at purchasing a A4 very soon. I am going to buy from a dealer in order to get the 2yr/100,000 warranty.
At first I was leaning towards the thirty valve V6 2.8 liter model. For the obvious more power, 190 hp, 207 torque. My search for these models have been complicated. I have found some but they were the wrong number of miles or too high price.
It seems the 1.8T model, 150 hp, is more common, I might be wrong. Should I buy the turbo? I know I can chip it for quick power but that brings down resale value. I need to be swayed one way or the other.
Your wisdom and advice is appreciated,
Andrew

The 1.8T seems to be the engine of choice here... it's cheap and fairly easy to modify with a lot of aftermarket support (read: choices). Its a terrific engine... has been called the most versatile engine to enter the US market... EVER.
The V6 has more power than the 1.8T stock... if you plan to leave your car stock, you proly want this. You mentioned getting the 30V... which is good, that means there is at least one performance solution out there... the PES Supercharger. Not much choice... and proly gonna be more expensive... but in the end there is no replacement for displacment.
Unless you have a lot of money (which if you do you should proly be looking into an S4)... I say go with the 1.8T... cheap and easy to mod... plus you already have a turbocharger... making it easy to put in a bigger turbo in the future. And thats my $.02

If you are into mods, get the 1.8T
If you are looking for a nice, smooth, linear power output, get the 2.8/3.0
Good Luck!

depending on how long it would take for you to save up the 5 or 6 g's i don't think it's worth it, cause if you had a 1.8t you could buy small cheap stuff and make it fast like a chip and boost controller
