It's winter again, and when starting out cold, the heater pumps out so much heat that I have to turn the temp down to 63. The reason, I think, is that the headliner temp sensor is reading 6 degrees centigrade lower than the dash temp sensor. This continues to be true even after driving for a while.

I'd like to replace the sensor to see if that fixes the problem, but if it's expensive, I'll hit a salvage yard rather than the dealer.

Anyone else ever seen this problem? I posted last winter and got no responses.

there is no sensor that I know of in the head liner... there are motion sensors in the b pillars... but thats all. My passat W8 overhead panel has an opening for a mic... but there is no temp sender that I know of.

Code #2 shows as being for the digital value of the interior temperature sensor, in headliner (G86) and Code #56 shows as being for the temperature, in deg C, for that same sensor.

That's from the Tech Article "Unlocking the Secrets within the Climate Control Panel."

Both of those codes give me values in my 2001 A4.

But you're right, Bentley doesn't show a G86 sensor as part of the interior climate control system.

Is it possible that G86 only exists on some other Audi model? And if so, why is my climate control panel giving me a reading for it?
