How much slower are the quattros v. the fwd 1.8t's? I am looking to get a 97 or 98 a4 and would like for it to be decently quick (mid 6 0-60 after some tunning). What are the 0-60's for the quattro and fwd, after they have been chipped, and new exhaust?
Thanks

if you want wheelspin, and about 2/10ths faster (because its lighter), then go with a fwd. if you want stability, control, and being able to kick anyone's **** in crappy conditions, be smart and get quattro. you wont be disappointed.

FWD can be quicker, due to less hp loss in teh drivetrain, and less weight.
Quattro can be quicker in bad traction, quick starts, and tight corners, as Quattro A4's have a better front/back balance, and superior suspension.
My car is great on the highway, and its very smooth....also, it handles fine in snow (although Quatto crushes me off the line
)
Where are you?
Another factor is that a 1.8 is much lighter in the front than mine....bigger push for Quattro in the 1.8T b/c of that.

The FWD times are faster than Quattro times, by like .3 or .5 seconds to 60. They are listed on the Audi site(or they used to be...haven't been there in a while).
I'd get Quattro. If your looking for sheer speed, you can get a much faster car for a lot cheaper. Turns separate the men from the boys=P

i live up in snow country (maine and upstate new york for school)
I do want the car to have mid 6's 0-60 after around 1.5k worth of tuning. Is that still possible to do with the quattro or only with the fwd?

i have an FWD and i definitely feel left out of the loop...quattro is what audi is all about, and you can take turns faster than the FWD counterparts, and beat them by the .3 seconds that way.
