If its the Jetta/Golf/GTI......same haldex system used on the TT which is totally different from the mechanical system on the A4.

and 4motion is haladex, I believe 4motion is more front biased like 70 front 30 rear where as quattros closer to 55/45
also quattro is for long engines like a4, passat etc and 4motion is for transverce like tt, gti

If you are referring to the torsen system, then the 4motion found on the Passat is the same as the Quattro on the A4. However, 4motion on the Jetta, GTI, and Golf are a Haldex AWD system not torsen, so it would not be the same as the A4. Audi uses this Haldex system on their TT and calls it Quattro, too. What it comes down to is that the names Quattro and 4motion only refer to the car having AWD not a specific type of AWD.

A4/S4, A6, A8, Passat are torsen
TT, A3/S3, Jetta, Golf, GTI (R32) are haldex.
Basic rule of thumb with chassis that make use of the 1.8t is longitudinal= torsen, transverse= haldex.
