Hi all,
My '97 1.8T is about to reach 60K miles and it's time for the big maintenance service. I called my dealer the other day to ask about the service. The service advisor told me that the 60K service would cost around $650.
For all of you who have had your cars past 60K miles, I want to know if he was telling the truth or just trying to rip me off. Does 60K service really cost around $650? It's the only Audi dealer nearby, so I don't have that many choices. Also, is there any certain things about my car being at 60K miles that I should watch out for (e.g., timing belt, transmission, etc.) that I need to mention to the service guy?
Thanks very much for your help. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.
Eric

....budget another $450 or so for that service. They should also replace the tensioner while they're in there.

What all goes on at the 60K service? When I next schedule for service, I plan on doing the following:
Timing belt
Timing belt tensioners
Water pump
Spark plugs
I've already done a full fluids flush/fill when I bought the car (54K miles).

I replaced my air filter, pollen filter, plugs, oil+ related filter, brake fluid. They did the fuel filter and something else that was minor. Charges came to around $125. You can save $$$ if you go get this stuff yourself and spend a few hours on it. For my new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, the dealer milked $890 outta me...ouch! I'm around 69K on my 97...and it's still going strong as all heck.

....unlike the 2.8 motor where you might as well change out the water pump while you're in there changing the timing belt, on the 1.8T the water pump can be easily changed later.

This is such a newbie question but I've got a 98.5 2.8 and I believe I read in the manual that it's a timing chain. How often does that have to be changed? TIA
