Using your logic, the wind would create friction (which is does, minimal) and the temp would go up.

Only reason that wind/movement will lower temp is because hot engine air is being evacuated.

Maybe that's the answer. The wind is driving the temp up, thus false readings?

I'm not sure, but I think you're right about why wind feels cool.

Default The ground absorbs and radiates heat.

Your sensor is somewhere near your front bumper and will always give you a higher reading than a temperature sensor mounted on the top of a tree (or bank sign).

Default Its right in front of the Radiator, and behind/below the bumper

probably within 12" of the road....which is often 10 to 20 drgrees hotter than the air on a sunny day.

I doubt it, the friction caused by the wind would be so minimal that it would not affect it.

Default Re: I'm curious (poll?) if cars with no front plate or euro plates read better (mine's +6 too) ...

I have a Euro plate on the front of my car. I have noticed that the tempature reading is normally about 2C or 3C (3.6F to 5.4F) above other outside sensors (house, radio, signs).

When it's winter, I've noticed it a bit better, perhaps only 1C difference when it's -28C (-18F)

Where is that damn sensor again? I couldn't find any mention of it in the service manual.

Default My outside temp indicator is very accurate on my S4 and on my old A4 as well....

...as long as you're moving along at a decent clip, I find the temp readout to be accurate. Sitting in traffic it won't be accurate due to the radiant heat coming out of the engine and up from the hot pavement.

Yes the ground, especially asphalt, absorbs the heat and radiates it off of the ground and with the sensor location, its taking the temps at the boundary layer of heat coming off the ground, you've seen the illusions of a wet road ahead, thats that boundary layer of heat...
