Question about K04 upgrade for tip...
Has anyone had any problems with a k04 turbo upgrade on a tiptronic transmission. I've read all the related archived posts i could and got mixed results. Has anyone who has had it done for sometime see any probs? Also, can a s4 tip tranny be swapped into a A4? cost? I know that converting it into manual is too hard and costly. Basically, how can i get a k04 turbo upgrade into my A4qtip without worrying that it'll fry my tranny? I'm not selling it to buy a manual, this is my first car and it took me a while to find.
I know that the torque limit on a tip is 230-240, and that the k04 would give it 265. But i know AWE is offering a k04 upgrade for tip. I'm just really confused. Someone help out i need some kinda feedback here.
Thanks,
Pierre

inconclusive data
There was somewhat of a consensus on here that a K04 was the maximum for the Tip tranny. Me personally.. I wouldnt go farther than a chip+exhaust in the long term. These ZF trannies seem to be a little fragile.

Cheapest way to get the trans to handle it is call Level 10. S4 trans is not
really all that easy because you also have to change the rear end gearing/or whole rear diff. Other subtle differences as well... don't do it. (IMO)
Level 10 upgrades will make it stronger than an S4 tranny (so they claimed to me when I had it done...) and are really simple all things being realitive. They offer a torque converter upgrade as well as a valve body upgrade. The valve body upgrade is what really makes it more rugged, and can be done without removing the trans. The TQ upgrade creates a more positve and sporty feel, they get it so it functions more in the power-band of the motor and a little less for all out comfort.
Under normal "with your granma' in the car" driving you can't tell anythings been changed. Under hard driving the valve body allows much higher clamping forces in the trans, faster shifts(VERY fast) and the TQ locks at a higher RPM so as to allow the motor to rev initially and not bog down so much off the line.
Wow, sorry that was so long! ;-)

I got mine as part of the AW group buy... $950, I sent them the parts. (I personally took trans out)
I have no idea if they are still doing it? And I think it normally runs like $1200 plus getting your trans out and in etc. The web site has never listed the tip upgrades as far as I know, so call them up.
