An automatic does not feel like that because it would never accelerate from 1000 rpms. It does for you what you are meant to do in a manual and that is to rev the engine up to 2-3 grand and then modulate the clutch and the gass untill it is all the way out. If you do it right, you can illiminate the turbo lag from a standing start.

The boost still does not come on till after 2000 rpms
which means the power is not going to come on strong till 2500+. With a turbo you need exhaust gas to start spinning that turbo and your not getting enough of that while below 2000 rpms.
