Default Question about lowering springs

I have a 1999 (early year) A4 quattro 2.8 - I do not have sport suspension. I have 17" mille miglias with low profile Pirellis that I want to put on. I was going to buy Eibach lowering springs only. Do I have to change the shocks also or can I simply put the after-market springs on the existing shocks and why???

Default Re: Question about lowering springs

You can put the springs on to lower the car and the shocks will work....for a while but after not too long you will have to buy new shocks so do it all at once..the shocks will get busted up with lower springs

Default I have lowering springs on stock shocks

I've driven about 48k miles on them and I haven't had any problems with failing shocks.

On my previous A4 I had lowering springs on sport shocks, drove about 80k miles, no problems there either.

I say get a set if you can afford it. My friend and i did eibachs on my girlfriends 97 with 65k miles. When we got the stock non-sport shocks off all but 1 of them was completely dead. They had absolutely no rebound. So now I have to buy shocks and spend another afternoon taking the suspension apart. Save yourself the headache and do it correctly the first time.

Default I'd recommend shocks.

With a '99 model, chances are your shocks are way past their usable life already. Adding lowering springs will only worsen them, and quickly.

Check out our specials on Vogtland lowering springs. We're offering them at great prices.

Default Upgrade your shocks

If all you want is to have the lowered look than the stock shocks will do for a little while. If you want to improve the handling ability, then upgrade to some better shocks. If your stock shocks are in decent condition now, they won't be for long if you lower your car.
