Question about my old K03 for you turbo experts...

I had the K04 installed last week and I have the old K03 sitting in a box, and I'm trying to determine what failed. The gold colored rod that runs the length of the turbo and operates a "flapper" valve inside the turbo is the wastegate rod, right? It moves very easily, does that mean the wastegate rod is broken? Any recommendations on what to do with the K03, maybe get it rebuilt for $300-$400 and sell it. I talked to some turbo rebuilders and they all said the same thing, if the turbine spins freely, than it can rebuilt for less than $400, completely refurbished, balanced, and blueprinted. Is it worth it?

a buddy in the Porsche club couldn't afford $1600 for the ball bearing turbo like I had bought, so he had the K26 off his 944 turbo "s" rebuilt, balanced, blueprinted, turbine clipped and the inside of the housing polished. It made a huge difference in his car for about $150 more than a stock rebuild.
