Question about parts for a clutch job...
It looks like I am about to be doing the clutch on my car- it's a 2000 A4, ATW bone stock. I have seen more than a few clutch kits, and they all include the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. I have never replaced a clutch before, but I guess there has to be a first time for everything.I have read the Tech article on this, and I have the Bentley... Obviously I have a question:
The tech article mentions a new flywheel in the parts list. Do I need to replace it, or do I continue using the one I have? It looks like he re-used the one in the tech article.

How many miles do you have? You will want to take it to a machine shop to resurface it if it passes
this inspection...

Also, you will want all new bolts probably... Flywheel bolts, drive shaft bolts, drive line bolts, pressure plate bolts... I would also do the rear main seal, input shaft seal and shift rod seal while you have everything out... Inspect EVERYTHING and make sure it is all good before putting it back in...

$350 is a great price! If it is a new, stock DMFW. You can get a LWFW for that price new too...
It is all up to you and what you want though, southbends clutches are the same price wheater you have the stock fly or light weight...
And you won't NEED a new flywheel with 119k, it would just be recommended since you won't get near the mileage out of the 2nd time that you did the 1st...
All said and done, I think I paid about $850 or so for the whole thing in just parts...
New clutch - $500
Resurfaced fly - $40
ALL new seals - $150
New bolts - $40
Tranny jack - $75

If it's the car's first clutch replacement I doubt that you need a new flywheeel.

I have a clutchmaster's clutch for sale. It's brand new and I never needed it. You can check it out at clutchmasters.com. It's stage I. Cluthmaster's stage 1 hold up to 70% more but great for stock too. E-mail me if your interested.

If you're staying stock you can get a sachs for just under $300. (edit)
As long as you don't plan on chipping, it should be fine.<ul><li><a href="http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=1420">Clutch</a></li></ul>

I resurfaced and balanced my dual mass, I wish I'd switched to a solid with sprung disc
I personally don't like the LWFW as they are too light, if I could get a 75%-90% stock weight solid flywheel and sprung disc I would be happy. I don't like the play that the dual mass provides, I think it's just too disconnected.
Keep in mind machining and balancing will run you $150-$200, so a new FW isn't that much more.

-flywheel
-clutch kit(Sachs,LUK, Valeo or the like for oem)
-flywheel and pressure plate bolts
-rear main seal
-guide sleeve, seal , and o-ring(usually they come all together on the new sleeve)
-pivot pin
-pivot spring
-clutch slave
-trans mounts
-fresh gear oil
-shifter rod bushing
If you have the Bentley , then you know about the factory tools that you might need.
