Question about standard 225Hp TT compared to standard A4 1.8T engine
Can anyone tell me if the 1.8T in the 225HP TT is basically the same as the one in the A4. Is there any internal differences to the engine or is it just a different turbo, chip and intercooler setup.
TIA

Strength of the standard 1.8T engine
Thanks, I am making a decision about getting a Wetterauer chip, either 0.8 or 1.0. I thought maybe is the TT engine was the same, then it would confirm that the A4 1.8T can handle 225Hp with no problems.

Re: the 1.8T will handle much more than most are willing to push it.
Do you know what the most common types of failures are of chipped 1.8T engines? Turbo, pistons, valves, etc. Would you know what the most common problems may be?

Most common failure.....bypass valve....
...$40 part ($160 if you want to fix it forever with a Bailey valve). And they last quite a long time even when chipped (my BPV lasted 40,000 "chipped" miles before I swapped it out for a Bailey).
Other than that, failures attributed to chipping the 1.8T engine are very rare.
