Question about valve cover gaskets...

The gaskets are leaking on my 97 A4. I looked in the Tech section and found an article for replacing the gaskets on an A8. Is the process pretty much the same for my A4? Oh, and where would be a good place to order the gaskets from? How much do they usually run?

Pretty much all the bolts you see on the top of the cover are the ones to remove. I don't recall how much the gasket set was (it's one valve cover gasket and 4 "o-rings" for the spark plug holes)....not more than $50 I think. Just order it from Clairparts or Suncoast. Good luck..

I should change my spark plugs as well. I'm at 35k right now, so I think they need changing anyway. What kind of spark plugs do you recommend for a 2.8? Thanks again.

It was the passenger side one. It was leaking bad. The driver side wasn't leaking but I bought a new set anyways. I think they cost me around $75 for the set of new covers which automatically come with the gaskets from the dealership parts department. I had a crack in my valve cover to, so that is why I ordered the entire set. If your leak is on the passenger side bank of the V6 then to replace it is very simple. Like Andy said, just remove all the visable bolts holding the valve cover on. Oh ya, when you bolt the new one back down, be sure not to over torque them. The driver's side is a different story. There are some things in the way that don't allow you to get to one of the bolts easily. For this reason, I didn't change my driver's side valve cover and gasket (it is not leaking anyways).
