The air bag light on my dash remains illuminated while driving; I read the manual and it indicates that this is a problem with the air bag system, etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How simple is it to fix (will I have to leave the car at the dealer, or can they fix this while I wait?) Also, I've had a number of problems with the wiring in my car already, and am concerned that this could be connected somehow (it took the dealer four tries to repair faulty wiring in my transmission). Thanks.

Check the archives - this has come up quite a bit. I think the dealer has to replace a switch or sensor, so you'll probably have to leave the car. I've never had a problem with the airbag light - I just remember reading about it several times.

It's a switch. I had the same problem with my old '95 VW Jetta (own A4 1.8T QW now) in which this constantly happened. You probably won't have to leave it at the dealer because it's a relativily easy fix--if the dealer has the parts.

one post distinguished between a steady light and a flashing light; the flashing light indicating that the bag was probably disarmed, the steady light some other problem.
One report of a dealer fix by working on a loose connection under driver's seat.
I'm interested since my light just came on today, 10,000 miles on 98.5.
Gonna go look under the seat now...
