Default It may help regain lost timing IF you are losing timing at all. Run a timing log and see.

If block 020 shows little to no pull back it is a waste of $$

Default Only a few bucks to try it once. The way that GIAC is aggressive with timing maps

I wouldn't doubt that your ECU is pulling some timing quite often, at least in the warmer times.

To be scientific about it, try this...

1. Do some runs with the VAG, logging knock sensor output and timing advance
2. Run the tank dry and put some 100 octane in
3. Drive for a while to clear the lines and let the car adjust the fuel trim to the better gas.
4. Repeat #1 and see if you get less know ck sensor output and more timing advance.

Default thats a good idea. would you suggest doing it when its cold

and again when its warmer? to see if i am pulling the timing in warmer temps?

Default APR tends toward running very safe levels of timing on their street programs. They expect folks to

use the 100 or 104 octane programs with 100 or 104 fuel to keep that safety margin at the higher power levels. From what I've seen GIAC tends to run more timing on their 'street chips' so I'd be careful running a GIAC race chip on lesser fuel.
