Default QUESTION for anyone with High Flow Intake: Problem with the recently installed intake.

So I installed an Apexi intake a couple of weeks ago and just got an engine code saying "Too Lean". I'm checking for leaks but cant find any. Anyone who've installed an exterrior intake have this problem before? I am wondering if its due to the filter causing turbulance in the air since the MAF is only inches away from it.

Any suggestions?

Default That may do it. I have an Evo intake and it has a tube that routes to the MAF

That could be your problem.

Default Do you have a new MAF housing..? you may have to get one to register the larger air.

At least I know with my T-28 kit the larger MAF works fine with the cone intake...

Default Thanks for the advice all. Currently, i got less than 3 inches from MAF to intake. So

Im going to try adding an extender this weekend and see what happens. I promised pics a week ago but been to lazy to clear out my camera memory stick from last months vacation. Will have that up asap.

Default The apexi unit doesn't affect the MAF like a normal inverted cone

those can create faulty MAF values, maybe you are running lean because it sucking way too hot of air? Try to get some good heatshielding around it. I have the thing hooked directly to my MAF and my fuel ratio is good.

Default Well, the intake is cool to the touch after long drives, but I'll go ahead in double the heat shield

So, I'm going to check for any broken/leaking pipes, extend the maf-to-filter distance, and double the heat shield. I hope this does the trick.

There is no secondary sensors on A4 right? I know some japanese vehicles have MAF and another air sensor before it.

Thanks for all the advice!

Default If it's cool to touch then that's not the problem

check your O2 sensors and your MAF sensor. Those two are usually the first things to check when air fuel is off.
