Default question, I had service done about 4k ago now the service light is back on

I had an oil service at around 28k miles.. then at 31k the oil was low so I added two quarts and reset the oil light..

now at 32k miles the service inspection light is back on.. what could be causing this?
the car drives fine and its not low on oil
(should I try to find someone with a vag?)

can I reset the service light? the car is getting traded saturday and its going to be serviced then anyways

Default You added TWO quarts? How LOW was it?

The diffence between min and max on the dipstick is only about a quart. Does this mean you burnt two quarts of oil over 3k miles? If you need that much oil, then you should probably check the oil each time you gas up. Maybe whoever changed the oil (Who did it?) didn't fill it up properly? Did you check when you got the car back?

Maybe the service indicator wasn't set back correctly.

You said the car is going to be traded? Good riddance. :-P

well I added almost 2 quarts I think..

for all I know they never serviced it (the service was also last summer and I did not check the car when I got it back)
the car has only been driven 6-7k miles in the past year

now that I think about it, it was more like 6k miles since the last service but that is still a lot of oil to be burned..

but the car has never burned oil prior to this and is not driven hard (its a 2.8) also it has never had a mechanical problem until this

A bit over 5 quarts, depending on oil filter size
