Default Question on paint jobs

I bought a '98 A4 not too long ago that I am in love with. My only complaint is that the paint job seems to get beat up very quickly and with very little effort. Does Audi use a poor paint on their vehicles? Any input is much appreciated (also any suggestions for protecting the paint job)

Default didnt VAG and come to think of it BMW start to use water based paints as part

of a movement to 'help the environment" - as a result I think the paints are technically softer than the previous paints like a couple years ago
