Default Question for people regarding my gas mileage: (Somewhat long.)

I have an '01 1.8tqm with an APR chip running a 91 program full-time. About 2/3 of my driving is city driving, with the other 1/3 being highway driving every week. My overall gas mileage has been sitting at 23.0 mpg ever since I bought the car in the last week of October of 2005. I keep seeing people posting that they are getting 25-27 mpg for city/hwy combined, or even just in-city. I do not drive like an ***, and don't get on it that often. The car has 83k miles on it. Should I just start by cleaning it out with BG44K or Seafoam, or should I be looking into checking my fuel pump or fuel filter? Shouldn't I be getting better mileage?

I will recheck gap on them, I may just go ahead and get a new set since it's spring now anyway.

Default i average 28 summer 26 winter....edit

but only 30% of my driving is city. this is calculated as i don't have the dis. i wouldn't trust the computer to be real accurate. what size tires do you have? larger tires will reduce your milage.

I'd trust it "within a few", but you better do an actual measure

I thought larger tires would increase milage. Same speed less rpm?? Am I backwards?

Default When people say larger tires, what they mean is...

16" to 17" rims, or something like that. The actual rolling diameter of the tire is assumed to stay the same (or close to it).

Generally what happens when you step up in size is you increase your tire width (contact patch) creating more rolling resistance. Also, you tend to add weight to the wheel and tire combo, which results in more driveline losses. Both contribute to slightly lower fuel economy.
