im sure this has been asked before, but im doing this as an affirmation of what i already believe. what is the definitive answer as to using a chip in a tiptronic and a manual car?
i have a tiptronic and i need to use an ecu from a manual car. do i need to do some reprogramming with the VAG-COM, or am i free to just swap them as they are? anybody with experience doing this? directions, links, anything? thanks guys.

I loaned my APR-chipped ECU to someone with a '99.5 FWD 5-speed (I have a Quattro/Tip). For the pre-DBW cars the only difference in any of the ECU part numbers is the software programmed inside (according to APR, the ECU *hardware* is exactly the same on all A4's from '97 to '99.5).
However, since there ARE differences in software, you need to make sure you have an APR chip based on the correct version of Bosch base software for the car in question. Hook up a VAG tool and check the ECU part number that comes up in the software. If it doesn't end with a "C", you may need an update from APR.

that even mentions tip/manual compatibility for a chip. if i missed the article, post the link and ill read it. until then, im inclined to believe that it can be done.
