First I have 99 AEB and was wondering if a harmonic balancer was used on these engines. After searching it looks like one is not used since a dual mass flywheel is used. But is some posts there is mention of a vibration damper being used. In the ETKA they call it a vibration damper. Is there a difference? On my engine it is just a solid type pully and no rubber stuff from what I can tell. I cant get under the car right now to check.
The reason I am asking is I switch to a solid mass flywheel and found I am getting some small vibrations that were not there before. If I just rev the engine weather the clutch is in or not I feel the vibration. So rather than paying $1000 to put the old flywheel and new clutch back in I was hoping I could find if anyone makes a harmonic balancer I could use, if that would even make a difference. Is there one for the AEB? Or a universal one that can be used? What about somehting off a vw/audi diesel? Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

The crank pulley is a "dampener" of sorts. The Flywheel is also a dampener, however with a solid flywheel you should be using a sprung friction disc. It helps reduce the lovely bucking I was able to induce on my 12v 2.8 with a solid LWFW and solid center disc, it was only an issue if I chose to care about the chatter at idle and forgot my tact in clutch operation, which was um never.
Really the question is just how much vibration are you experiencing... is it a little buzzz or is it like you are taking part in a porno film featuring that vibrator from the naked gun (the one made from a chainsaw)

that remindes me of Top Secret, what the hell was the name of the vibrator in that?....
I would say the vibration im feeling is slightly more than a buzzz. It isnt too bad, but bad enough to make me want to switch back to the DMFW. I feel it most around 2100rpm and 2500-2900rpm, 2700 being the worst.
I purchsed the flywheel and clutch as a combo (034) and it is the sprung type. I assume that is what you are refering to when you say sprung friction disk. Is there more of a true type damper that can be used? Or am I screwed and have to go back to the stock flywheel? I dont mind doing that, just trying to save a few $$$

Well I wasnt able to contact him and didnt actually talk to him on the phone. We did discussed this through email though.
He says it shouldnt be doing that, and suggested taking it out to inspect it which I did, it looked fine. Javad did mention he is using the same setup for 30k without any problems. The last I mentioned it to him was that I thought I could live with it but the more I drive it the less I like it. I actually like the setup and would like to keep it, I just need to get rid of the vibration.
So back to my original question. Can some type of true harmonic balancer be used on the AEB?
