Default questions about keys

the 97 A4 came with a non switchblade key/remote..
what i want to do is buy a switchblade remote from a 98+ and have a key cut for my car that will fit on the switchblade. (i compared and metal key itself looks the same on both)

i do not care about the funcationallity of the remote, i just want the key to work.

is this possible. the dealership told me "No"... but for some reason i am weary to believe them (because, again, the keys look exactly the same.. same length, same width.. only dif seems to be the end piece on key which can connect to the switchblade)

Default Please search for the answer.

I believe you can, and I believe you can even code the remote to work...the answer is definitely in the archives if you take the time to search.

Can someone with a 97 A4 please speak up if you have done the switchblade mod?

Default Have you tried to buy a blank key from the dealer, and than have it but on the CNC by

copying the key.

Default But still no straight answer on whether it was actually done

People stopped talking about it without telling the actual results.

And I don't think we are interested in the OEM remotes... we want the switchblades.

Now someone with a 97 please speak up.

Default The key is the same. Just get it cut.

You can pick up blanks on eBay pretty cheap I think.

Default Thanks, that helps quite a bit... now for the most important question, will the eBay switchblades

work?

Because I am not about to fork up so much money to get a remote for my car.

Default I was told that if your car uses the "sidewinder" key then the switchblade remote and key will work.

You could always ask the seller for the part number on the remote too.

Good Luck!
