Questions regarding cone filter...

You will need a kit...not just cone filter...
The kit will replace the factory airbox with tubing, heatshield, and the filter. You can't just rip the boxoff and put a filter on...there are sensors that need to be placed back onto the intake with a cone filter setup. Take a look at some of the pics that LLTEK have and you will see what I am talking about.

Not necessarily.....
I got mine attached without a kit, and so does WYSIWYG. It does take a little work though. The ignition module needs to be mounted on a heatsink (or it will fry, and its very expen$ive) and you need to create a heat shield of some sort. If you do it yourself, then it's possible to keep the stock airhorn. Might not be enough room to put it on an aftermarket setup.
A lot of people say it doesn't make a difference. It does.
What year is your car? Some people have had problems with a cone filter on the 2001 models.
Here are a couple shots of mine.
