Default Any way to tell transmission type..

Is there some part of the ECU part number the denotes transmission type? Or does the seller have to just know what car it came out of.

Default Huh? Its either auto or manual. It doesn't matter what car it came from, just what coding it

has set by VAG-COM. I don't think you get what we are saying. You need a computer to interface with the ECU to change its coding so it knows you have a manual tranny now instead of a auto. Yes, either a dealer can do it (for about $150) or some one with a VAG-COM.

Yes i understand that concept clearly. Its obvious however that you did not understand my question, which is asking if there is any way to tell which transmission the ECU is CODED for, based on the serial number. Apparently the answer is no. Thanks for clearing up my dealership question though, its much easier for me to get to the VW dealership than the Audi one. thanks.

Oh no, the part number won't tell you how its coded. A VAG-COM is the only way to do it.
