Please explain how to remove the automatic shift ****. I took the chrome shift plate off to sand it and make it into brushed aluminum and it doesnt fit without taking the shift **** off THANX

put the shifter into 3, you have to turn the key to the 'on' position btw. e-brake on just in case. the button you push to shift, pull that out, it doesn't come out, so don't try to take it out, you've gotta position yourself for this. while holding the button out, pull the shift **** off and it'll come off. don't be afraid b/c sometimes that bitch sticks on there like nothing.

remember to hold the button out, don't push it in, hold it out, all the way and pull off

On my 1998.5 theres a silver collar at the base of the shift selector (****) than needs to be pushed down first
