Thats tough .. Sinuous style of Jaguar and typical silky smooth ride. Or precision sport of Audi.. Both look awesome and have AWD. It'll be close. I'll take both for a test drive and get my wife the Jaguar and hold out for the 2003 Avant.

In fact, probably the only thing that could get me to trade in my current A4 early (planning on holding on to it another 3-5 years) would be an X-Type that drives as good as it looks. The Jag would have to handle better, accelerate at least as well (1.0 MTM chip), brake at least as well, and have a comparable ride. The interior looks great, comfort (front seat) would also carry a lot of weight. Oh, yeah, it'll have to be reasonably priced, staying close to it's $30K base with necessary options.
Jag has good intentions with this car, but the proof will be in the test drive. IF it meets all of those requirements, I MIGHT take the leap after the first model year. Otherwise, I'm sticking with my car. There are a lot of other great cars out there in this price range, but the A4 fits me and my personality/needs/wants almost perfectly...it'll take one heck of a car to top it.

When they first put up the x-type web site, you couldn't enter it -- you couldn't even look at any pics of the car -- without first registering and providing all sorts of "required" personal info. So in the space where they asked for my name, I put "I'm not telling". I inserted similar comments in other fields of info, and wrote them a long message protesting the use of mandatory registration for site visitors. I did supply my real email address. Well, of course I've never received a response to my protest message, but to this day I do still receive emails from the x-type marketers, and they always start with the salutation, <i>"Dear I'm Not Telling"</i>. LMFAO. It's hard to have any serious respect for an organization after all that, but I still like how the car looks. I'm hoping to see both the Jag and the new A4 in person at the NY Auto Show in April.
