Quick question about turbo cool down

since getting my APR chip I've been religous about cooling down after hard or long runs. I'm about to leave work and have to stop in to a convience store. If I shut the engine down right away but start it up again after about 60 seconds will the fact that I didn't cool down matter?

you might shave off 60 minutes of the life of your turbo if you don't let it cool down, but it's designed for those harsh operating conditions. Don't worry about it THAT much and just drive the sucker!

suppose you've been running the car hard, and shut it off without a cooldown. With the engine off, the oil stops moving, and the oil can begin to burn rather quickly if the turbo is hot enough. Restarting it in a minute will definitely lessen the probability, but the coking process will start in seconds.

Not that I don't respect the merits of a turbo timer, I just don't like the idea of messing with the car's internal wiring. Since 95% of the time I know where I'm going, I just go easy on the throttle the last mile or so if I've been driving the car hard. Only in the most severe cases combined with the Georgia heat will I wait in the car for a minute or two before shutting the engine off. A GT25 runs at much lower RPMs than a chipped k03 (probably half), so the thermal energy created should be a great deal less in my case.

But throwing a big ol turbo onto your engine doesn't faze you a bit!!!! Yer a funny dood meester chris.
The turbo timer install is actually quite easy - all you're doing is holding power to the ignition lead. James' FAQ is very good.
