Quick question for the TIRE guros......
I cant remember what width my current rims are (bought them used). I am running a 235/40/18 tire and the rim isnt protected by the tire at all (you know, when the tire kinda overlaps the rim to give it a little curb protection). Are the rims 8.5 or 8 inches wide? I think i'm gonna get 240/40/18s for my next tire. This sound right? Should give me some more protection? Also I have done a search for the best summer tires and have found many posts praising the Bridgestone S-03s. All i am looking for is a very good performing summer tire that is pretty quiet. Will these do it? Please post your favorite summer tire.
THANKS GUYS!

no guru but.. tire width differ between tires of the same size. 240 is probably *too* wide (more)
if your sig accurately depicts your drop height .. you'll most likely experience rubbing going 240 wide.
your wheel width can be determined when you mount you next set of tires. remember .. width is measured bead to bead. not from outter rim edge to inner edge.

Sounds interesting....
I'm running a 225/40/18 with BFG KDW2 tires.. on the PES Grand Prix 18x8 wheels. If I were to run a larger width tire I would have to say I would go 235/35/18.. You will need to configure the wheel size and tire size with a tire calculator to verify the correct size you will need for a particular sized wheel.

oh .. s03's are highly regarded .. as well as yok avs sports and michelin pilot sports.
not an exhaustive list whatsoever.
i'm personally curious as to how the new kumho ecsta mx's will compare to my yoks

If you want rim protection, try the S03's, Pilot Sports, T-1S's. For something cheaper with a lot
of protection, try the Falken FK451's and Nitto 555's. You can generally tell how much rim protection there may be by checking the tire specs and looking at the tire width. Not all 225 tires have the same width, some are wider than others.

You're most likely going to run into issues...
if you go to 240's (rubbing).
...and I'm sure your wheels are 8.5" if you get minimal coverage w/ 235's.
FWIW, the SO-3's are said to be 5-7mm wider than some of the other big name tires out there.
Kind Regards
