Default Racing an A4

I am in the market to purchase a used A4 quattro to race in autocross or maybe road rally. I know there are certain SCCA and NASA classes which limit what kind of modifications can be done to a car. Does anyone know if I can swap a larger 3.0 or 3.2 liter V6 from a 2002-2007 model year series B6 or B7 into an older 1997-2001 B5 series? And if this would affect which class I can race in?

My thought is to purchase a high mileage B5 and swap a larger modified engine into it.

I have years of VW experience but am new to Audi. Tired of front-wheel drive so looking to go quattro and maybe race as well.

Default Before you start anything I'd figure out what kind of racing you want to do.

Then build around that class' rules. It'd suck if you put time and money into something, only to find out you really cannot be competitive in the class you really want to race in.
If you don't know what class, go spend some time at events and talk to a LOT of people. Go for a LOT of rides.

Default Forget Audi... too heavy...

You'll be at a huge disadvantage and have to work extra just to pull kinda even.

* Heh... enjoys double meaning *

Been thinking the same thing. Do you know of local NOVA/DC tracks or events that would be a good starting point?

Default You can start with the ACNA events that the Potomac-Chesapeake Chapter holds at VIR...

VIR = Virginia International Raceway....I think they have an event there in March or April? There is also the NJ Chapter event at NJ Motorsports Park in May...

Lots of A4 1.8Ts, A4 2.8s and S4s to be seen at these events...hopefully I'll have a 6MT S4 by the May event...

Default buy pointby's car. scroll down. change the mods to whatever series you want to run it.

swapping the motor probably wouldn't be allowed.

peronally, I'd pick a different car to race. too heavy of a platform, and the B5 is probably the lightest namely the A4 1.8T, but it's still a challenge to get it setup well with power, suspension and gearing.

you could buy an old STaSIS car:

http://www.stasisengineering.com/carsforsale.aspx</a

for auto-x, I'd rather pick up an E36 M3 than any B5.

Default A swapped motor would most likely put you in StreetMod......which you WILL NOT be competitive in

Thats what I have to run in for SCCA because of this stupid supercharger. I am absolutely no where close to being able to hang with the cars in that class. They have 3x the power and 1/2 the weight. One step under being a prepared(non-street legal) race car. Tube chassis and what not.

Here's the SCCA class ID's for the Solo(AutoX). Pick one then build your car to suit. I hate to say it, but I don't suggest an A4.....or any Audi really. The STS/STX Miata's are hard to beat up here in the Steel Cities Region.

http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo%20Rules/solo_categories.pdf

I'd look up you local NASA chapter, too. That will give you a bit larger perspective.
