Default Random stalling when sitting at idle....

I'll be parked or sitting at a light, and the car will just stall. Sometimes the computer recovers and the revs jump just before it dies, but it usually just stalls. I don't have a CEL, so does anyone have an idea of what this might be, and what blocks to watch if I VAG it?
TIA

Default i think it's the MAF wires...

the t-28 kits tend to have that problem...the MAF wires comes off of the plug.

Default ISV?

It could be your ISV (Idle Stabilizer Valve). I would pull it out and clean it. This is not from experience, just from reading the posts of others in the forums.

I personally have been meaning to dig out my Bently and locate the thing in my engine to clean it myself cause my idle has been a little rough. It's just not too bad enough at this point to care.

Default Could be...

the MAF wire issue is usually present all the time (not just near idle). A simple tug at the wires should reveal if a loosen connection is at fault.

Other things to look at are the throttle body. Get a vag.com and run a TBA. If that doesn't solve it, it might be time to clean the throttle body. If it's sufficiently gunked up, it might not be allowing enough air in for the car to idle right.

Default Well...I don't really know.

They make throttle body cleaners that you can spray into the throttle body to clean up the gunk. I'm not sure if it's safe to use those on our throttle bodies though. One thing I will say...don't stick your hand in there and clean it with a rag or something. You won't get it clean enough, and if you press against the throttle plate, you may damage the motor that controls the throttle plate.

Default Agreed .. best to remove the TB (you'll need a new gasket) and clean it by hand off the car.

A good quality TB cleaner will work .. CRC makes a good one. I'd avoid carb cleaners as they can be pretty harsh by comparo.
A vac leak can produce this symptom as well.

Default Found a broken MAF wire last week.....

Insulation was still perfectly intact, all of the wires were broken. Soldered it back together, been fine ever since.
