Default Rattling noise

Hey guys,

I hear a strange rattling noise when I am excelerating from first to second gear. It onl;y does it when I am shifting from first to second, otherwise it is silent. It sometimes feels a little slugish starting off. Thanks for your help in advance!

Actually, the more I think about it, it could be the cat? I dunno, I'd have to hear it in person...

Default the 5speed for the 2.8 seems to have an issue with 1st gear rubbing on the side of the trans housing

causing a grinding/rattling sound. I had a 12v a4 and it was really pretty terrible (passangers would ask what was wrong with my car if i went over 3k in first). I have a 98.5 s/c 30v now and its not nearly as bad(nobody's commented), but i can still hear it. This problem doesnt really affect the performance, the magnet in the trans collects the metals shavings before they can cause much damage to the other gears. Hope this helps.
