his 323i has no tiptronic, no sunroof, no heated seat, no xenon. But does that relly make the difference? I'm suppose to have 30HP more and more torque than him right? I did keep my RPM at around 1500 and he did too. BUT WHY STILL?! I can beat a Jetta VR6 auto, but why can't I beat a 323i?

That'll give you an idea of who pulls the most and who has the most useable power. I'm not sure what kind of race you had, but shift points and so forth (and your 18" wheels) will all come into play.

By the way, the 184 hp BMW engine is surprisingly more powerful than its ratings may suggest, thus all of the good reviews this car has received over the years.

For the price. And even with a chip it only enters to "acceptable" status, its by no means fast! I love to race others but i dont feel a thing when i lose, actually i like seeing people blow past me. As for why the bimmer is faster, maybe it has a fat torque band. But please dont act shocked when ur $30K car get smoked by civic SIs, its suppose to happen. Ur lucky its a bimmer thats faster than u.

Won against a 323i a month ago, but I drive a stick so it may be a different story.

A chipped 5-sp should beat a stock 323. Launch would have to be at 3 to 3.5k.
