Why would everyone laugh at it?
it is different. I feel it is more of a statement overall such as why we choose to purchase an Audi over a BMW or Mercedes.
I am sure you have been asked why didn't you get a BMW. This is why as enthusiasts we choose to make our vehicles different from the rest from subtle to outragious modifications ranging from body kits to car stereos.
So what if he enjoys the look of plaid in his vehicle? He is making his VW look unique and different from all others. His tastes and effort should not be looked down upon, but rather viewed and given opinion. Regardless if I like the idea or not, I think it's nice to see someone doing their own thing.
