Default Rear brake question

I replaced the rear pads on my '99 A4 last weekend. The Bentley manual states that you MUST replace the locking bolts anytime they are removed. I didn't have new ones, as I bought the pads from Tire Rack. The old ones looked fine, so I reused them, torqued to 35 Nm as specified.

So will this be a problem? Will my new pads fly off into space on the first freeway offramp?

BTW - these are the bolts that hold the caliper to the carrier. They look like regular bolts except that the head is very shallow and the @#$% socket keeps slipping off.

Default If the socket keeps slipping off, the monkey doesn't know how to use a wrench

or the monkey already rounded off the bolt.

In any event, reusing the bolts is fine. Ideally you should take a wire brush to the bolt, scrub off the blue loctite, and put 2 drops of blue loctite on the bolt when you install it again.

Default Yup, you're supposed to replace them, but don't stress about it.

Just torque them properly. If you get your pads from Audi, they actually come with new bolts.

Default Likewise; no problem

Although considering that now the car has 83+K miles, next time I might replace them for insurance.

Also, can't remember now, but think one set of repalcement pads had new bolts.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I'll probably use some loctite next time I pull the rear wheels.

According to RKA, I guess I need a better monkey too!
