Default Rear brakes sticking -- wear themselves out...

About a month ago, one of my rear brakes wore itself down to nothing and started making aweful sounds. Fortunately, it was still under warranty and the dealer replaced both rear brakes and fixed the sticking problem. The dealer told me that the reason the rear brake began to stick is because I never use the E-brake and that using the e-brake, even if only a few times per week, will keep the pads from sticking again in the future.

Anyone else have this problem?

Default funny thing...just found out my rear pads are almost worn ALREADY!

i just got back from rotating my tires and the guy told me my rear pads are almost worn. I looked at them and, sure enough, you can barely even see the pad because the caliper is so close to the disk. anyway, the front pads are fine (despite their tendency to make my rims dirty EVERY drive). i can't figure out why the rear pads are worn already...I don't even have 19K on my car yet. I have a stick, so I downshift almost before EVERY stop, so I don't jam on the brakes or anything. Also, I use my e-brake ALL the time, so what gives? thanks

Perhaps the problem of the brakes sticking isn't from the e-brake after all. Maybe it is something else and it happened to both our cars. Best of luck finding this out. By the way, I think that the dealer had to replace the whole brake assembly, not just the pads, to stop them from sticking.

Default have you heard the initial warning yet?

i wouldn't have even known that they are worn if the tire shop didn't tell me they are. So I guess I need to make a call to the service dept. tomorrow.

Default my car does the same!!!!!

the dealer said "your brakes are glazed.... you should change your driving style... don't hover on the brakes...only step on it when you reach a red...."

WTF?!??! i told them its the rear brakes dragging, but they insist its my driving skills...

so ok fine, at least its fixed now....i don't care what caused it...

i go home.... problem is still there, they didn't fix sh*t

Default

aren't the front pads supposed to wear before the rears though?

Default Its normal..

I am now on set #3 for my rears. 32,000 miles. burned an entire set of rear pads to the metal in 1 day of road racing. Before this event last weekend I put a new set of metal masters on.. They are nearly gone. I hate these Damn threaded piston rear calipers. They never let up so the pad rubs all the time. FYI: You might want to get the tool from the dealer. It makes life real easy when changing those rear pads.

Default Can someone confirm whether not using e-brake will make the rear brakes stick?

What is the explanation for this? I hardly use the e-brake and I don't intend to use in over the winter in Toronto either. Heard enough horror story the e-brake cable froze and the car cannot be driven until the e-brake can be released.
