The handle return spring broke. Mine did recently, I took the door panel off to verify, but haven't done anything with it yet, because its just a nuisance, not a serious issue.

I'll let you know soon, but I think it will require removing a rivet, then winding some piano wire to make the new spring, then finally replacing the rivet. I doubt the spring or rivet are available separately.

Just an update:
Phoned the dealer for a price on a new latch.
$150 plus $130 to install. That price, and the relatively warm temperature today tempted me to try and fix it myself.
It was relatively warm today, so I untied the door, and started to remove the latch. Turns out you can't remove the latch without removing the entire rear window carrier (FYI, in case anyone else needs to do this)
So I removed the rear carrier (thanks to the author of https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...ndow+regulator , it was a huge help), and then removed the latch.
Once I had the latch out of the door, I took the plastic covering off, and found that the mechanism that controls opening of the door for the inside lever was stuck (slightly rusty). I worked it back and forth a few times along with some penetrating oil, I re-greased the entire latch, tried it by hand a few more times, and it works fine now.
Sorry, no pics, I was in a race against the clock.
Thanks to those that commented for the help.
