I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I have a 1999 1.8 Avant....The rear trunk lid (locking mechanism) will not engage. I have had this occurr only once since owning the car. However I can not remember what triggered the mechanism to work again.
I currently have the trunk lid being held by two bungi cords attached to the eyelets near the folding seats. I can lock all the doors but in reality the alarm is not set because of the issue noted in the above statement.
I would welcome any advice....I may have to take it into a dealer tomorrow during work to get this resolved...(I'd rather not). I look forward to hearing from you....53 Pave Low

I am assuming your talking about the rear gate. Have you tried to unlock the latch? It may be jammed in a lock position. If you try and open it(lock wise) while taking a screw driver(to the lock mechanism) and just pulling the mechanism open.

Thanks for your advice...even tried it several times...got fed up and had to take it to Beechmont Audi in Cincinnati. Turns out the spring for the lock is broken and the part is on order...yuck...yes it was the rear gate lock on the avant. Some areas of the city is not always the best.
Thanks again,
Thi-Anh
