Default Rear Knuckle Compatibility/Interchangebility

A4 b5 1.8t manual 1999 possibly 99.5.

So after looking around I haven't found clarity about 'knuckle' compatibly.

I bent my left rear knuckle and am curious about the interchangeability between the usually 96-99 a4 b5's. Does manual vs auto or 1.8 vs 2.8 matter? Also if using a Passats parts would work. I'm hoping to pull the knuckle, hub, rotor, bearing, and control arms too if they will work as they are all most likely bent/broken.

At this point I don't have a part number but I will update with one tomorrow.
From searching I've found:

8A0505436
and
8A0505437 Found this # on ECS but it was completely vague as to what it went on.
http://www.ecstuning.com/ES6634/PriceAlert/Notify/

8D0505427
http://www.partsbase.org/audi/audi-a...ng-suspension/

All three of those shed no light. They don't have any real info tied to them.

If you've got a Quattro, the Passat parts will be incompatible.
For the rest of your question, the bearing housing "knuckle" should be the same part for all B5's, but will be different FWD to Quattro.
Auto/Manual, 4cyl/6cyl doesn't matter at the rear.

From what I can find, early B5's (well pre-facelift) weren't equipped or optioned with ESP.
Later pre-facelift B5's had ESP as an option, and had an alteration to the bearing housing as a result.

Part numbers are:
Quattro only:

8A0505827G - Left early B5's
8A0505828G - Right early B5's

8D0505827 - Left - all Facelift and PF with ESP
8D0505828 - Right - all Facelift and PF with ESP

I expect 8D0505827/8 will supercede the earlier part numbers.

My 99 knuckle appears to be 8A0505435 cd h cdp de 40

My replacement from a 2.8 auto quattro is 8A0505435 cd cdp de 25

The difference I can tell is how the wheel speed sensor goes in/tightens in. In the 98 there is a copper basket and it literally slides in and out.

On the 99 it goes in and is bolted down.

Bent control arms:

I am curious if the part numbers being different is going to affect anything besides wheel speed/abs sensor?
Will my 99 axle still work in the 98 knuckle? I've searched part stores and they say they are the same. Just double checking.

The lower controls are the same and so is the rear tie rod. Which is seized as a mother. Grinding comes tomorrow. Wish I had a torch!

Thanks you very much for the help and not just saying google it. I never post my own advice because of that childish behavior. Perhaps your very informative reply should be a new beginning for me

Looks like I'm wrong!
Your photographic proof trumps what I looked up in ETKA.
I just double checked then and those part numbers I quoted above still come in, and I cannot find your part number in the system (though anyone who's used VagCat will know it can be incomplete on occasion).

In Audi part numbers, the letters following the numbers (ie 8D0 535 435) are detail changes to the same part - so the "CD H CDP" and "CD CDP" will indicated that there are differences between them, although they're the same basic part.
How interchangable they are depends on what's been changed.

The rear tie rod is probably the aluminium stabliser bar - it's just a tapered ball joint into the bearing housing, have you tried a ball joint separator?

I'm a big believer in spreading knowledge, the whole "open knowledge" concept!

I'm my own amateur mechanic, but I've got a fair amount of experience with these cars, particularly the B5 Quattro I've owned for 7 years.
I'm also pretty tenacious with research, which I know a lot of people aren't or have trouble knowing where to look or with confidence with what to look for.
I also have my own resources, both on and off line, so don't mind sharing what I can find.
I'm not always right, but I'll have a crack and admit when I'm wrong.

From a visual inspection (pre installation) of the possibly bent 99 top knuckle arm, where the bolt goes into the upper control arm, it's slightly crooked. Crooked in the same direction everything else bent too. The hubs seem the same, lower control arm, tie rods and upper control arm seem the same too.

And p.s. if you read this in the future the pictures were taken down, they don't say much more than what I put into words.

I will update the interchangeability tonight.

Okay so the 8A0505435 cd cdp de 25 seems to fit fine on the 99 with 8A0505435 cd h cdp de 40. Only difference is the wheel speed sensor. I used the on I took from the 98 as the 99 sensor would be too short.

Black is 99 silver is 98

I got it all back together, drove forward about 10ft, heard it grinding still, backed up then tried to go straight and it wouldn't move in any gear but you could here it grinding still. My axle.

Rather than pay 80$ for a new axle and have to wait another day I went all intuitive on it
Both the left and right rear axles are the same. The from have a bigger spindle? and are longer. Except the part where it meets the transmission is the same. As far as I can tell. And so far it has worked perfectly. I swapped them.

I will be changing out that clamp so it doesn't damage the rubber. Just wanted to make sure it worked.

The rear tie rod bolt was seized 100% so I used a grinder. Also as a note (may be obvious, but you have to take the nut off as they are used in the alignment. I never new that. Learned something new

I don't know how to edit my posts :/ so here is a correction as to not mislead.

Both the left and right rear axles are the same. The front axles have a bigger spindle? and are longer. Except the part where it meets the transmission is the same (the joint). at least they are the same as far as I can tell. And so far it has worked perfectly. I swapped them.

Just as an update all the 98 parts seem to be working just fine and dandy.

I also got Avant Garde m310 5x112 18x8 et 45 for 300$ in Canada. Gotta say Seattle is one of the worst cities i've ever been in.
