Rear main seal leaking do I have to fix it?

Default Rear main seal leaking do I have to fix it?
I've just had about $1500 dollars of work done recently and don't want to pay the 800+ to get this fixed right now. Will it cause any worse problems? As far as I can tell it's only leaking a few drops of oil a day. Also, is this part the same as the rear transmission seal?

96 A4 2.8

Default i have an oil leak and a rear seal leak
i feel your pain, i have an appointment for the 25th, the car is parked in the garage till then im not taking a chance.

Default I have a drip now too, service can't locate it so I am living with it.
Really pisses me off though, having to put up with a damn leak, stains on the garage floor, now I have cardboard under the leak...

Default Are you talking about the rear axle seal?
If so, $800 to fix it?!?! The seal is like $10-$15 and it should only be 1 hour labour for each side. I had mine fixed last year.

No, it says "Rear main seal" on the invoice. Apparantly they have to drop the transmission to get to it. That is why it takes so long.
