Default Make sure the hubcentric ring from your old wheel isn't stuck on the rotor

My SLs do that all the time, you pull the wheel off and the ring stays stuck on the hub.

Default The wall is thinner, the acual outside diameter is the same...

sounds like these are cheap wheels, which are not designed to fit an Audi properly.

Not a clue. All I know is, the front and rear are the same, FWD or quattro.

Default confused.

The front and rear wheels for Audi's have the same size mounting hub 57.1mm. The center bore on wheels should be the same diameter. The only difference the FWD rear rotor has is the dust cap for the bearing. This dust cap sticks outward a few mm more than on a Quattro, so there's the potential that the dust cap HIT the actual wheel centercap. This is rare, but a possibility.

Otherwise the wheels should mount up without any problems. Make sure there's no hub ring on the rotor itself.

Default Maybe it's a sign from above telling you not to put that cheeze on an Audi??

Just a thought...
