Just dollops. Don't make a big mess for the next guy.

1)Wurth DP 300
2)Factory D 454 300 A2
You might just put a small drop at each peak or corner.
Torque spec(cylinder head cover)-10Nm(7ft lbs)
If your concerned about oil leaks up there, you might check over the crankcase pcv and the suction pump.
Regards

Default do yourself a favor & check your suction jet pump, and just a dab in the corners

THe latest stuff they recommend is made by GE.

Default Permatex black - $5 at NAPA

If you want to save yourself some money, go to NAPA and get a tube of Permatex black for $5. I just did my 1.8T gasket and it worked perfectly w/ no leaks at all. Only use it at the corners w/ verticals and areas indicated in manual. Don't put it all over the place as it will not seal any better and may actually be detrimental and certainly make it a pita to remove the cover next time.

I think it's more about the clean-prep than the actual sealant product. I just use Blue RTV.

Default If you are refering to that Y shaped valve thing I replaceed that and the check valve and the PCV

tube. I blew through the PVC tube that attaches to the valve cover and it gave no resistance so I dont think I have pressure build up under the valve cover unless I have a leaky cylinder.
