Timely post... here you go.
My battery has been struggling a bit since the temps have dropped recently. I spent the morning researching batteries. Here are the three suggestions:
1) Optima Orange Top (Same as the Red Top but with reversed terminals to match our cars). This is essentially a sealed 'dry/gel cell' battery. You need Model SC34R-105 (part 8003-151). 750CCA (older literature says 830 CCA). Available from any Interstate dealer but needs to be special ordered. Weighs about 38lbs and needs to be strapped into the battery tray as the bolts do not line-up. Cost about $150. BTW, Johnson Controls now owns both Optima and Interstate which is why they are distributed together.
2) Interstate Mega Tron. Model MTP-91. Silver Calcium alloy battery with 700CCA. Cost about $90 from an Interstate dealer. Weighs abou 41lbs and is supposedly a clean fit into the oem battery tray.
3) Sears - Consumer Reports just rated the DieHards as the most reliable across all sizes. Some on AW report that they have a direct replacement for our batteries. They will install them too.
I am picking up my Interstate Mega Tron this afternoon.
