1997 2.8 FWD, I heard the eibachs were a little soft and vortrag has heavier rated coils

With a 97 i wouldnt worry about which springs...get eibachs because they are cheap.

Default My eibach sport were ok for spirited driving. Since you have a front trak, I recommend you get the
front strut too. The rear you can swap anytime when the stock one breaks :P Other than that, The eibachs on stock struts will work. I had mine for a good 15k miles + when I upgraded to coil overs because I got hooked on racing and the eibachs, although ok on track, bottomed out on my AutoX.
