Default Removed this out of airbox

I pulled out my old air filter to replace it yesterday and noticed the large silencer in there. I removed it and really dont notice any diffference with anything , my question is should I put it back in becuase it changes air velocity into the MAF or anything??

Default It helps straighten airflow...

I would put it back in. You're asking for maf failures if you don't.

Your MAF will most likely go bad without it.

you may get CELs from turbulent air going over the MAF.

Default i dont think the maf will go bad without it. what is the reason it would go bad?

from what i know, mafs go bad because of contamination...crappy filters, oil from K&Ns...etc.

Default Re: Removed this out of airbox

The unit you removed helps starighten and speed up the air flow across the MAF allowing the most presice metering for the engine. The engine computer likes knowing the amount of air in so it can add the proper amount of fuel in all driving situations.

This might sound goofy to some, but at lower rpms you have removed the velocity in the airstream by removing the velocity stack so the motor could take longer to get up to speed. These are fractions of seconds, but betwenn shifts it could cause a lag.

exactly, turbulence = bad readings and premature failure

Default because air isn't flowing over it as intended. it's like driving on a bent rim,

one may ignore the vibration it's causing, but it is also placing tons of stress on the suspension components.
