I am quite a bit impressed. The car is much smoother and it seems that the old pep boys one would reach a maximum ammount of air it could flow, because now it runs much better in the high rpm's. Plus it looks much nicer. All I need now is some heatshielding which im going to build.

Most of the stuff they carry comes from APC which makes a filter that has a inverted top. When you install this type of filter right at the maf sensor you end up pushing the air way from the center of the filter and tube. This in turn causes a lower air flow in the center of the maf housing and your maf readings go down and makes the car run lean.
Now your new Apexi filter seems to be alot like the RS Akimoto filter, which has a very small nipple on the inside of the top. This causes air to be sucked in more even across the filter and even draws the air toward the center of the maf housing. Now I would have bought one of the RS filters but at $85 each plus you need a silicon hose($24 from RS) it just did not make sense over a $44-$50 K&N filter, maybe later down the road when I need a second filter.

This is the pep boys filter:

Is that an inverted top? I know for a fact the Apex one can be directly attached to a MAF because the universal adapter is made for attaching to a MAF.
In making a decision to buy this filter, I read several comparisons and not surprisingly most filters gave similar performance increases. The Apex however was priced very competetively, and let the least ammount of dirt through.
Test of filters:

everywhere i see these filters on the web they say filter only-- and the filter alone has no mounting point for a pipe. you need that flange that attaches to the filter.
