I had the same problem, The problem is the head unit is amplifying the speakers and the OEM rear speakers have an amplifier attached to the speakers. The speakers will not work.
Basically I went to Tweeter and they put this "adapter" in. I wish I knew exactly what it was called! I think it is some type of potentiometer device that allows you to adjust output of the head unit. Sorry! I am sure any local car stereo place will know or have this part.

Are you planning on replacing your OEM speakers or do you want to keep them?
I did the same thing as you did and havn't had sound from the rears... I am going to just run a new run of speaker wire from my new deck to the rear speakers. For now, since I have the stock speakers, I will just have to bypass the amp (the amp's only on the driver's side speaker). Once I get new speakers I'll take out my factory ones and through them in the trash. I wouldn't even bother trying to get an adapter to make your new deck work with the silly factory amp. But it's your choice. (by the way, when I talked to my car stereo installer, he said is wasn't even worth my time to try to get the line level outputs of my new deck to work with the factory amp on the rears, if you look at the wire harness going to the rear speakers, you'll see that the line outs for the rear share a common ground. Try to get your RCA's to talk to that!)
