Default replacing '96 Keyless entry

I have a 96 a4 and the keyless entry sucks...I want to replace it with a newer non-audi system from somewhere like circuit city or something. Is this possible and will it mess up my car? And how easy is it to do...could i do it myself, I'm not too familiar with electronics or will circuit city do it for me...and what system would be best?

Thanks

i have a '96 also, I went with a Viper System. If you in new jersey, Sound Waves in parsippany does a great job.

The guy that put it in, is going to be an Audi Tech, proably at Paul Miller. I had him do it cause I knew he would do it right. And I dated his Sister a long time ago......
