i've searched the forums and there isn't a write up on how to replace the battery so is it just basically the same as any other battery replaement?
also are there any tips/tricks on making it easier to replace?

1. Disconnect the "-" terminal first, and get it AWAY from the negative terminal on the battery. Then proceed to disconnect the "+" terminal. Make sure you have the radio code handy before you do this, because your radio will go into SAFE mode, and you'll need to enter the code to get it working again.
2. If you have a MY2001 car, I think there is a bolt holding the upper strut bar that blocks access to the bolt that holds the battery tie down in place. If there is, remove the extra bolt to get access.
3. If the plastic winshield cowl is in the way, turn on the car, turn on the wipers, and shut off the car when the wipers are at the 12 o'clock position. Take a phillips head screwdriver, and turn the plastic screws in the cowls 90 degrees counter-clockwise, then loosen the cowl so you have enough clearance to pull the battery.

Really.
The B5 battery takes 5 minutes to replace. Any bonehead with a 10mm wrench and a $10 socket set can do it. If you need a writeup for this then I'd strongly suggest you just take it to a mechanic and have them do it for you.
