Default Replacing fuel pump: Can I use standard hose clamps or have to use crimp clamps?...

I think my lean condition may be due to bad fuel pump. I can audibly hear my fuel pump in car and out of car. Can I use just plain old hose clamps when hooking hoses to fuel pump or do I need to use those crimp clamps that's on it right now? Any advice when replacing? And can I change it with a full tank (just filled yesterday)?

Default You can use regular clamps *IF* you get good ones...

The cheap ones do not seal all that well in any size, in the smaller dia even worse.

Just be sure to get high quality ones that are smooth all the way around inside and pull/tighten evenly. It's hard to describe but if you look at some different ones side by side you'll see what I mean. There are certainly differing qualities of hose clamps. Also make sure they are stainless steel, and ALL stainless, not stainless with a mild steel screw/bolt etc.

Default if you buy a Walbro fuel pump kit, it'll come with the clamps. The only thing with that pump is...

it's not a direct fit. You have to trim a little off the pump housing and crimp a couple of wires to accomodate it. Run your tank as low as possible unless you like working submerged in gasoline. Seriously, you want the low fuel light on in the dash before you do this job.

Default I have the VDO pump. I guess I'll have to see if my neighbors want some free 92 octane as I don't .

have any containers big enough to put all that gas in.
