I read a couple of how-to's on how to reporgram the switchblade key by putting one key in the ignition and the other in the door, BUT the 98.5 A4 I just picked up only has 1 key and no valet key. The lock/unlock button does not work... it may be the batteries or it may need to be reprogrammed (have to contact previous owener). Assuming that it does need to be reprogrammed, how can I go about this with 1 key? Should I just have the dealer cut a valet key or something and put that in the ignition and reprogram the current key??

You can do it with vag-com with one key - even on the non-immobolizer cars.

If I have a second key cut, just the metal part, not the whole remote, I can put that into the ingition and reprogram my current remote using the procedures outlined? Or do I have to have 1 key cut and put into a new remote and use that along with my current remote to reprogram it?

I don't have a vag-com, but maybe someone in my area does... I will have to try the local boards.

Any idea how much it might cost to have the key cut?
Would it be cheaper to purchase the key+remote assembly online?
Is there a particular model or P/N that will specifically only work with my car?
Do the newer keys have a trunk button also, that would be nice if my car had it!
